real life: death fics...
I just finished reading a death fic. The 'funny' thing is that I started crying at the beginning when I thought that it was the sort of story where the author starts at the end, but then Uther's death was mentioned, so I thought that would be it. But then Merlin was suddenly dead, and it's been fifteen minutes now and I'm still crying and it physically hurts.

It's not the sort of crying that brings relief. No, I feel empty and betrayed.

Please, dear friends and whoever is reading this, if you ever write a death fic, use a specific 'main character death' tag instead of the usual 'character death'.

Think of us, poor sensitive souls, that are overly invested in our boys happiness.

'Cause as much as I could enjoy the author's writing style, it simply isn't worth the pain for me.

Thank you.

I read that same story. It was unexpected, uncalled for, and TOTALLY unnecessary.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so.

When the phone call about the crash came, I felt numb and dizzy and a little bit sick, and it was probably the most awful feeling I've had in past few months.

Seriously, the author likes sad!fic. It was awful.

now I'm not sure if you mean that my comment was awful or the story was...

That was me. iPad was being weird. You are not wrong... a warning was in order!

The author apparently likes sad!fic. Apparently it's good to take a great story and RUIN IT just to make everyone sad.

well, I'll be too scared to read anything from them ever again after this experience

oh god, I need to go to sleep but I can't because everytime I close my eyes I see Merlin dead and go into a little panic attack

It didn't happen. Merlin is not dead! Go read "Pairing: Pendragon/Merlin" for reassurance. It's my favroite.

I like that one too, but it's a bit too long considering my alarm goes off in three hours. I think I'll try the method from the other thread and read some of my own stuff.

Good idea! Read an adorable happy fic.

One of my favorite happy fics:

hee, thank you...

it's true that my own fics are probably what will save me from being curled on my bed with my body trembling in panic

I can't read death fics...I just can't. Minor characters I can handle to a point but major character death and it triggers my depression so badly it can take me weeks to recover. That author was very careless. Character deaths are not to be taken lightly.

(Yay, I'm awake for a little while tonight!)

For me, every death fic leaves a scar behind. And you know how it is with scars. They can hurt or itch at times... :(

(and yay for you being awake for a while!)

*hugs*

Hope you got to sleep okay. I tend to avoid main character deaths too and that they didn't specify that it was a main character, I agree, is quite insensitive of them.
After what [livejournal.com profile] doctoraicha said about the author, I'm kinda curious as to who it is, so I can be weary of their stuff if I happen to come across it.

*more hugs*

Ow! No idea what story you're talking about, but I'm glad I didn't read it! Fandom is my happy place, I don't mind a bit of angst and I sometimes read dark!fic, but unexpected main character death would unsettle me too! It should *definitely* be properly warned for.
